What size
Peke Moe™
should I get? -
There are 2 sizes available 00/small (for
approx 0-7months old) and 0/large (or approx 7-13months old). We
also make an extra large by request (these are not in stock normally
so may take an extra day or so to be completed. The summer weight
and winter weight fabrics do have a wee bit of 'stretch' to them. If
your baby is VERY addicted to swaddling and does not sleep at all
well without arms restrained, and your baby is within the sizing of
the small , then I would definitely recommend starting with that
first. It will provide a small amount of restriction on babies
arms/hands and will help transition baby. If your baby is sleeping
ok with a bit of arm movement and they are closer to the large size,
then I would recommend going for the large size as it will last your
baby longer. In the end it's up to you, however if your baby is
smaller, then it's not advisable to go for the large as there will
be alot more excess fabric.
In order to work out the right size, measure
your baby from nape of neck to foot, and then from finger tip to
finger tip with babies arms outstretched from sides. (the
measurement you're wanting is in relation to the length and width of
the Peke Moe™ as shown below)
Small '00' - (approx 0-7 months - approx
length -shoulder to zip 29" (74cm) and width 23" (59cm) :
Large '0' - (approx 7-13months- approx length
from shoulder to zip 33" (85cm), approx width 27" (70cm).
Which fabric should I get?
- The summer weight is a lightweight muslin, it's great for hot
summer weather, the fabric can feel a little 'rough' to start with,
but washes up quite soft, however this is not recommended for babies
with eczema as the fabric can be a bit too scratchy on babies with
super sensitive skin. The regular weight/brushed cotton is a
flannelette fabric (similar to what winter sheets and pjamas are
made of) it is not hugely thick, but soft and cosy. It does have the
'pilling' effect that all brushed cotton fabrics get, but babies
still love it! The winter weight cotton knit fabric is like a thick
t-shirting/jersey fabric, absolutely lovely, great quality, but may
be a bit warm for all year round use.
How safe is the
Peke Moe™?
-
The Peke Moe™ is extremely safe. If you think
about the safety of loose blankets/bedding in the cot, and the
opportunity for baby to become tangled up in these (swaddles up over
face etc during babies wriggling at night), you will realise that
the Peke Moe™ is so much safer. The baby cannot fall 'into' the Peke
Moe™, the neck is the same as a t-shirt and fits snugly over babies
head and fits in around the neck. In relation to the loose fabric -
everytime baby moves their hands/arms the Peke Moe™, the fabric
moves away from the face. Many babies love the feeling of the fabric
up near the face, they rub it on their face and it helps them learn
to self soothe/self settle. All fabrics used for the 'bag' area are
100% cotton and breathable, baby will not overheat (as long as you
ensure they are dressed correctly underneath, and it cannot become
tangled around babies neck or face (like blankets or swaddles can).
To start with, the Peke Moe™ can also be tucked into the foot end of
the crib/cot to reduce the amount of arm/hand movement and reduce
the ability for baby to get the fabric up to their face.
Is there a retailer for the
Peke Moe™ in my own country?
–
AT this stage the Peke Moe are only available
directly from us the manufacturers here in NZ.
How do I transition my baby into the Peke
Moe™?
- Some tips in case your
baby doesn't transition immediately (kindly given to me by parents)-
1.You can tuck the foot end of the Peke Moe
into the foot end of the cot, this can reduce some of the 'hand
movement' within the peke moe to start with.
2.You can do a 'loose' wrap over the Peke Moe
to start the sleep/nap with.
3.Try 'sleeping' with the Peke Moe yourself
for a night to get your 'smell' on it.
4.If baby has a dummy/pacifier, you can attach
it to the front of the Peke Moe with a 10cm length of fabric and
safety pin to the front of peke moe (and tie one end to the dummy),
if babies wakes for dummy, go in and gently guide their hand to the
dummy attached to the peke moe, then guide their hand to their
mouth, within a few days they will be able to replace the dummy
themselves.
Are there any other colours available in the
Peke Moe™? –
Unfortunately we have been unable to source an ongoing supply of
colours/patterns, so at this time we are only able to provide white
in all 3 fabrics. Every so often we hope to have some limited
edition colours/patterns, so do ask.
Return Policy:
We will either replace or refund (less shipping & fees) for quality
issues with the Peke Moe™ once they are returned to base within
30days of purchase.
We cannot provide a guarantee that your baby
will like the Peke Moe™, and will not refund where this is the
reason stated.
The summerweight fabric
has a tendency to look 'crooked' when layed tlat, this is due to no
lack of quality when making or in the fabric, but due to the
'creping' process, The product is still 100% useable and all
summerweight Peke Moe will have some tendency to look as though it's
been cut on an 'angle' and that it's uneven, however it is cut to
exact measurements. The summerweight are also always going to be
longer than the other fabrics due to the 'crepeing' of the fabric
also. Measurements are related to the regular weight fabric as the
guide.
